Close your eyes and experience the forest with your other senses. Crawl over logs, through a tunnel, and imagine being an animal living in the woods. This is an experience you will never forget! |
Museum of Natural History and Cultural History |
The MNCH is making puppets! Ever wonder why animals "wear" those crazy outfits? Spots? Feathers!? Scales!?! Come join us as we make animal puppets on sticks and learn the connection between what animals "wear" and the environment that they live. |
Nearby Nature |
Create art with natural materials! Use small cones, shells, pepples, lichen and more to "paint" a temporary picture at our booth inside or join us outside to create larger scale Earth Art. Let those creative juices flow! Also keep your eyes open and see if you can spot Frannie the Frog hopping around! |
Northwest Youth Corps |
Nothing says camping like good ol' fashion Campfire Cookery. Cook hotdogs or marshmallows over the fire. Learn the fine art of roasting marshmallows and putting a hotdog on a stick. |
US Forest Service and BLM |
In 2012, the Willamette NF and Eugene BLM are adding a few new activities. In addition to appearances by Smokey Bear, Woodsy Owl will be along this year. Through our partnership with the High Cascades Forest Volunteers, kids and their parents will get a chance to use an old fashioned ‘misery whip’ – the two handled saws that volunteers use today in places where chainsaws are not permitted. Look for our scavenger hunt leaders; work with them to explore the park and win prizes. We will also have a stream table set up; build towns and streams, see how water moves and maybe even create your own winter flood. |
Whole Earth Nature School |
Learn how to do fire by friction with demos and instruction. Also come practice the exciting craft or archery with Foam Arrows! All activities will be throughout the day. |
Willamalane |
Bones 'n' Animal Tracks and Track Crafts! Get to know your furry friends. Check out our cool collections of BONES! Then try your hand at Native American Basket Weaving like the Kalapuya Indians that once inhabited this area. |
WREN |
Explore how wonderful wetlands work! Come play with a wetland and make it rain! Hands-on learning with our wetland-in-a-pan including wetland animal figures. We will also have exploration backpacks filled with guidebooks, bug boxes, scat & tracks and more for families to check out for unstructured exploration. |
The sky is NOT the limit for enjoying the great outdoors!
We hope to see you at Play in the Rain Day.
